Most recently Lauren performed “Intimate Dinner” at the 2020 Asheville Fringe Arts Festival. Previous performances include Capital Fringe DC, Piccolo Spoleto, Greenville, and Spartanburg.
Intimate Dinner (Capital Fringe DC) offers a comic look at fine dining. The solo show written and performed by Lauren French explores our unique and absurd experiences with food. The play takes place at a Pop Up Dinner in an exclusive restaurant in D.C. For a preview of the show click here.
Jack Read from Broadway World said, “French is a remarkably talented actress, so in tune with her physicality and voice that every one of her 20 characters feels instantly real. Intimate Dinner is exactly what the title says - it's a short evening where we watch a tortured waitress dealing with truly insane personalities.” To read the rest of the review click here.
And Helen Ganley from MD Theatre Guide said, “The night was dotted with appearances by celebrity chefs, all personified by French… Besides being celebrity guests, French performed as countless restaurant-goers, each identified by exaggerated facial expression, body language, and some well-suited props:… These archetypal characters were breathed new life by French’s energetic and well-paced performance as she darted between each role, oftentimes having a three-way conversation (or sometimes argument) with herself.” To read the rest of the review click here.
The show was first performed as a workshop produced by The Woolgatherers Theatre Group in NYC last November. It has since had another workshop, followed by a performance at Coffee Underground in Greenville, SC. Intimate Dinner was selected to be apart of the 2018 Piccolo Spoleto Festival were she performed to sold out crowds. In the fall of 2018 Lauren received an Individual Artist Grant from the Metropolitan Arts Council in Greenville to help fund a performance in Greenville, SC. She performed it at The Velo Fellow, a restaurant/bar downtown and at the Spartanburg Fringe Festival.
